Our institutional and community pillars
Welcome groups: Your gateway in
Settling into a sprawling metropolis like Kuala Lumpur can feel daunting at first. This is exactly where the city's expat welcome groups come in. A true institution for newcomers, these non-profit associations are on a mission to give every new arrival a warm, well-organised welcome.
From your very first steps, a team of volunteers helps you overcome culture shock and makes your social integration far easier. Whether you have moved here as a couple, with your family or on your own, these groups are where genuine friendships are formed.
"We don't sell services, we build friendships. Sharing talents and passions is the DNA of our community."

Scouting: Building Character in the Jungle
One of the jewels of our community is, without question, the international scout group. Far more than a leisure activity, scouting in KL is a school for life. Built around the Law of the Jungle, the programme teaches young people solidarity, perseverance and respect for Malaysia's lush natural world.
Outings take place in exceptional natural settings such as the national parks (see our guide to biodiversity in Malaysia). It's a unique opportunity for children to flourish away from screens, in an intergenerational team spirit.
- ● Values instilled: Commitment, mutual support, independence.
- ● Setting: Tropical jungle, overnight camps, water activities.
